About the Author:
Terrell McDermid lives in Bath County, VA and in Washington, DC. She was raised in Winston-Salem, NC, a community with a thriving arts scene that inspired her love of the arts from an early age. In 2018 she decided to try her hand at painting and has painted almost constantly ever since. She enjoys still life painting – flowers, household objects, consumer products, small antiques – anything that captures her interest and tells a story. She also enjoys the challenge of painting landscapes en plein air with subjects ranging from the Virginia countryside to the occasional urban or village scene. Whether still life or landscape, she paints from life rather than photographs whenever possible, and her work is generally painted alla prima, wet into wet, often in one session.
Terrell has studied painting at the Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo, MD with several instructors including Walter Bartman, Gonzalo Ruiz Navarro, and Marcia Klioze. She has studied at the Washington Studio School with Trevor Young and Lee Newman and at the Art League of Alexandria with Bethanne Kinselle Cople. She has participated in workshops with Maggie Siner and Tim Horn. She is a member of the Jackson Art Center in Washington, DC where she has a studio.
