About the Artist:
Deliece Blanchard, Winston-Salem, NC
Deliece Blanchard paints landscapes with lyrical and rhythmic marks that reveal her background in
music. A cellist as well as an oil painter, she is a member of the Oil Painters of America, the
American Impressionist Society, and American Women Artists. Highlights in 2024 include a solo
show “A Love of Landscape,” in Lynchburg, Virginia, a first-place award at the Cashiers NC Plein
Air Quick Paint, being juried into the OPA National Exhibition and the Eastern Regional Exhibition.
She has been awarded fellowships from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Cook
Foundation, and the Tyrone Guthrie Center in Ireland.
Deliece’s painting, “River Reverie,” is from the 2023 Bath County Plein Air Festival, which
celebrated the event’s 10th anniversary. It was painted beside the Jackson River – near an area of
charming cottages and river houses.
“I have loved being outside since childhood and working from direct observation has been key to my
development as a painter. I met my husband, Fred, in a field biology class at UVA and we continue
to explore the natural world side by side – painting and fly-fishing. I’m excited by painters who have
a distinctive painterly and colorful style of realism, like Van Gogh, Richard Diebenkorn, Andre
Derain, and Fairfield Porter.”
