Cowpasture River Watershed Conservation Lands

Conservation lands comprise over 63% (187,000 acres) of the 297,000-acre Cowpasture River watershed. Public lands include the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests, Highland Wildlife Management Area, and portions of Douthat State Park. Other privately-owned conservation lands include preserves and conservation easements held by The Nature Conservancy, Virginia Outdoors Foundation, Valley Conservation Council, Virginia Department of Forestry and Shenandoah Valley Battlefield Foundation.
